What to do if you fall for an internet scam:

Never contact the scammer. Gather emails, bank statements, and other information that may help authorities catch the scammer and help get your money back. Take these steps:

1. Report it, even if you didn't lose money or data. You can report scam websites to law enforcement and file a complaint to the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center (link here: https://www.ic3.gov/ ).

2. Lost money? File a police report.

3. Stolen banking details? Contact your bank to block credit cards and accounts.

4. Stolen personally identifiable information? Report it to the police, your bank, credit bureaus, Social Security Administration, and Federal Trade Commission.

5. Stolen password? Change it to something more secure and enable two-factor authentication (this is when you need to enter a special code that was texted, e-mailed, or generated by an authenticator app, in addition to your password).

6. Scammer accessed your personal device? Change your passwords, inform your bank, and scan for viruses/malware.

SCAM ALERT: "Utah DLD Final Notice" Text

Have you received a text message claiming to be from the Utah Department of Public Safety Driver License Division about an "unresolved traffic violation"? It is a SCAM. Scammers are sending high-pressure messages like the one in the photo to steal your credit card info and personal data.

Don't click any links. Don't reply. Delete the message.

Clear signs of a scam:

We don't deal with unpaid tickets.

We don't text, we write letters.

We don't apply pressure.

Don't fall victim to this scam. Tell your family and friends.

If you had private major-medical health insurance last year AND you received a subsidy (aka: Advanced Premium Tax Credit), which reduced the cost of your insurance, please be sure to include or use your "Form 1095-A" when you file taxes. This is how the IRS squares your income prediction with the cost of your insurance.

If you forget to include/use Form 1095-A, you should file an amendment to correct your taxes to avoid negative consequences with the cost of your insurance and with the IRS.

Normally, your 1095-A form would have arrived in the mail (from the Health Insurance Marketplace) by now. However, this year the government announced they are behind sending these forms out. The forms are expected to arrive by mid-February this year. If you'd prefer not to wait, you can call the Marketplace (1-800-318-2596) 24/7 and they may be able to e-mail your 1095-A to you early.
