Ten years ago at this today, our own Carlos Tavarez was with his Orlando Fire Department partner, Josh Granada offloading a patient at Orlando Regional Medical Center when Carlos heard there was a shooting down the street at Pulse Orlando. The partners raced to the scene and ended up being the first paramedic unit to arrive and immediately started treating and transporting victims. Although the partners had mass shooter training, nothing could have prepared them for what would transpire over the next several hours or what that experience would leave them with over the next several years. Forty-nine innocent people lost their lives that night, over 53 other patrons were wounded, and numerous EMS and law enforcement professionals would be changed forever. We will never forget June 12th or those that were lost over ignorance and hate. Because this tragedy was also the catapult for starting The Rescue Company 1 we continue to strive to be the best in all of their honor and to help train other EMS professionals become their best so that others may live and hate will not win.
