At least Tower of Terror straps you in first

Yesterday’s post had us swapping favorite Disney extras in the comments, and the conversation reminded me I had this sitting on my phone.

Last summer from our Animal Kingdom Lodge balcony, we watched the Starlight Safari truck roll up on a giraffe who’d clearly decided the path was his now. Full standoff, nobody was moving him.

Best traffic jam I’ve ever happily witnessed.

Have you ever gotten stonewalled by the wildlife on a Safari tour? 😂

The one Disney splurge I’ll defend to anyone is a $189 safari tour I almost talked myself out of booking.

Savor the Savanna drops twelve of you into a private truck, pulls off the regular path, and just lets you sit there and watch. We rolled up on a herd of giraffes right as a baby named Tucker decided to sprint across the savanna, kicking up dust and causing trouble with anything that moved.

There’s a private overlook with African small plates and drink selections catered by Tiffins Chefs, keepers who field every weird question you can think of, and my wife is still talking about the chicken salad a year later. No script, no rush, nobody moving you along. It quietly wrecked the regular safari for me in the best possible way.

That kind of money on a two-hour tour isn’t for every trip, and I honestly most of mine it isn’t in the budget. But every so often the right splurge resets how you see a whole park.

Is there a Disney upcharge you’d book again tomorrow without blinking?

Or a special experience you have always wanted to try when the moment is right?

Wilderness Lodge guests spent days in 90-degree rooms this weekend while it felt like 110 outside 🥵

The recovery has reportedly been all over the place. Some got comped nights, some were moved to other resorts, and a few reportedly landed in a Grand Floridian suite.

The closest we have had is the main water heater went out at our Old Key West building. Disney offered to upgrade us across property, but we just slid into a similar room down the way and called it a day.

Stuff goes wrong even in the bubble, and I'm always curious how they make it right for everyone else.

Ever had something break during a stay?

Did you get a comped night, an upgrade, a move to another resort, or did you just tough it out? 🤔

It feels like one trip I was turning the double stroller onto Main Street, and the next our kids were leading us onto Tron.

The early trips, the PeopleMover was a thrill ride, and the stretching room was still eyes-closed territory.

Before long, the double stroller got traded for a single, the days became scheduled around meeting the characters and catching every parade.

A few years later, the parades gave way to Cosmic Rewind, and princess breakfasts at Akershus became a hunt for the next great snack around World Showcase.

This last trip, the boys led the way across Magic Kingdom, glancing back to make sure my wife and I were keeping up. We watched our babies disappear into young men who now knew the way better than we did.

Each stage along the way felt like the best one while we were in it, and they all were in their own way.

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads still carrying their babies, the dads pushing the strollers, and the dads like me now being led around by those same kids who were asleep in the stroller with bubble wands in hand, what feels like just a few trips ago.

Whatever stage you find yourself in, it’s the best one yet!
