The Kliment Voroshilov (KV) tank were a series of Soviet heavy tanks used heavily in World War II. The T-35 proved to be a disappointment and heavier armor was needed. The KV series was the result, first being built as the KV-1 in 1938, with their first battle being the Winter War. The KV's proved to be highly resistant to anti-tank weaponry. New variations came in the form of the KV-1S, KV-2, and KV-85. With their heavy armor protection, a single KV-1 or KV-2 with infantry support could halt a German advance. The KV-2 came equipped with a 152 mm M-10T howitzer, 2 × DT machine guns, and powered by a V-2K V12 diesel engine producing 600 hp. These first saw action in the Battle of Raseiniai.

The mid to late 1950s saw a variety of experimental passenger trains produced in an effort to attract riders back from the burgeoning highways and airlines. One of these was the Roger Williams train-set for the New Haven Railroad, which was essentially a full train-set of RDC's. Designed by architect Marcel Breuer and built by the Budd Company in 1956, this 6 car diesel multiple unit (DMU) had 2 power cars featuring controls and streamlined cabs, and 4 unpowered trailers. They were also third-rail compatible when running into Grand Central Terminal. It was initially used in higher speed passenger service, until it was later split up and used with other RDC's under New Haven, Penn Central, and Amtrak. Part of the set was sold in the mid 1980s to the Hobo Railroad in New Hampshire. In 2023, it was moved to its new home at the Berkshire Scenic Railroad.
