2012 Ford Ta**us V6 Customer states vehicle runs poorly after having coils and spark plugs replaced by mechanic. After diagnoses, only the no.3 coils was replaced, the no.2 coil isn`t firing due to a broken coil connector and the no.4 coil has high amperage due to a shorted coil. Only the boots were replaced, not the coils. The fix is all new coils and spark plugs.

Diagnosing vehicles isn`t as simple as plugging using a scan tool, reading codes and replacing parts. It requires a serious understanding on vehicle operation, electrical schematics understanding and the proper equipment to aid in pinpointing the cause of the problem. Case in point, this waveform comes from a 2017 Kia Forte that has had the parts canon fired at it and still has a loss of power, long crank time and also lack of interval oil changes. The middle hump tells the tale. This vehicle has an advanced timing issue that is reflected with the exhaust valve closing early.

Customer complaint was during a stop, the vehicle would not start after brake was released, Customer stated they put it in park and turned ignition key on/off several times before starting. Checked battery voltage and charging system, ok. Checked starting system power at the relay, notice a slight drop in voltage on the wire to the starter. used a bypass tool to remotely activate the starter. Starter clicked several times before starting. New starter was the fix.

2007 BMW 328XI crank but no start. the vehicle had a grocery list of codes as in the pictures. investigation found no power to the injectors, fuses 39, 38 ,37 and 42 as well as no control using a test light. found the control wire to the injectors shorted to ground which was energizing a relay constantly even while vehicle was off {glowing relay using infrared thermal imager} A wire bundle had melted and shorted several wires to ground.

2017 Kia Forte 2.0L complaint of lack of power, rough idle and no engine codes {mechanic had cleared codes but saved wrote the codes down}. After investigation found the oil was low and dirty. talked to customer on the last oil change, well over a year ago. The mechanic said he installed new spark plugs, no improvement. After performing a in cylinder pressure test, was able to find the problem. Exhaust valve timing was advanced, Intake looks good. Had the mechanic to change the exhaust VVT and change oil. Informed customer of the problems with the 2.0L.

This is carbon buildup on valves after 100k miles on a GDI engine. This can cause a range of issues such as rough idle on startup to cylinder misfires. If your vehicles is a GDI ( gas direct engine) you may want to have it serviced.
