Auto Theft Patrols this Weekend in Owasso
There are a few high profile car events occurring in the Owasso area this weekend, including the Hot Rod Power Tourโs final stop at Tulsa Raceway Park on Friday and of course Hogs & Hotrods in Collinsville on Saturday. While we love that many of the participants will be visiting our fine city, the mass influx of thousands of classic vehicles also attracts a criminal element who may wish to relieve the rightful owners of their very expensive vehicles (there were 9 show cars stolen out of a single hotel parking lot at one of the HRPT stops in Illinois just a few days ago). To deter that criminal element, OPD will be using SAFE Grant funds to bring in off-duty officers to assist the regularly scheduled shifts with auto theft deterrence this weekend.
The additional officers, some in visible marked police cars and others in unmarked vehicles, will be strategically stationed throughout the city, primarily focusing on business/hotel parking lots. This will free the on-duty shifts to focus on residential patrols, traffic enforcement, and normal responses to calls. We will have our FLOCK system scanning license plates for stolen cars and additional drones will be activated and ready to respond anywhere in town in seconds with overhead thermal and night vision coverage (yes, we cheat at hide and seek).
Whether it be a visitor or resident, our goal is to have ZERO CARS STOLEN in Owasso this weekend - but no matter how many extra cops/drones we bring in, we canโt achieve that goal without support from the community. We need everyone to keep an eye for each other and report suspicious activity immediately. As always, please make sure you remove valuable items (and keys) from your vehicles and make sure everything is locked up tight (especially) at night.
For non-emergencies, you can call 918-272-2244 x 0 or 911 for emergencies.
