Meet one of our TEDxOxnard speakers, Brian Rosario! He will be speaking on a coach's interpretation of code-switching as it relates to leadership, culture, and influence. Every team, whether it's a sports team or management team, has three areas those leaders must think about in order to create an environment that enhances the aspirations of the team members, as well as moves the team towards their goals. All of which stems from the investment in people, as opposed to, the transaction of personal gain.

Meet our TEDxOxnard featured speaker of the week, Dr. Lorri Santamaria! Her talk is titled, A Matter of Life and Breath: Transcending the Barrier of Disproportionate Trauma. Punctuating her talk with breath work, for those of us “who can breathe no longer,” Dr. Santamaría explains the phenomena of recent and current universal and collective shared trauma. She explains that this particular trauma impacts some groups of people more than others, and as such is a barrier for which transcendence is necessary for progress and reconciliation.


In her talk, Dr. Dr. Santamaría provides a rich living example for Barrier Transcendence Theory (BTT) through her non-profit work with Healing the Soul, a group of Mixtec women researchers and community healers, who are disproportionately impacted by shared traumas; yet despite the barriers and the odds provide traditional alternative mental health services to the migrant indigenous community of Oxnard, CA.

"Growing up in Oxnard my whole life, I've really appreciated the community that helped shape me. One of my goals has always been to give something back to my city, so when I was contacted about helping with TEDx Oxnard, I was so excited! I hope that the citizens of Oxnard are able to take advantage of the accessibility of our talks and learn some invaluable information. I also would like to see more opportunities created for people in our community, because the citizens of Oxnard really do have a lot to offer."
