The dock piling on which the heron is standing is part of the marina where I keep and live on my boat in Ventura Harbor, CA. This was the heron's favorite perch; it would sit up there for hours on end, checking out the world below. The image is what the camera saw, complete with palm trees in the distance and enough fog to add personality and a sense of mystique to the image.

These beautiful birds make their homes in two trees in the Ventura Marina. I was fortunate enough to be standing in the right place at the right time when this one was just leaving one of the trees. It was shot with my Canon 5D Mark IV and Canon 70-300mm lens.
