This philosophy is the foundation of our Movement. When we show up for our neighbors, we aren’t just providing service: we are acknowledging our shared humanity. Whether in the DMV or Charlotte, we are far stronger when we serve together.

It’s an interaction of dignity and love that stays with our neighbors and young people with potential long after we leave. We move toward the need because community is where real change happens.

Partnership is the heartbeat of this movement. I want to take a moment to highlight our incredible partners at CarePatrol Gastonia for their support of our Heritage Social Brunch (HSB) on June 7, 2026, in Charlotte.

Events like HSB aren’t just about a meal; they fuel our mission to serve our neighbors through programs like Saturday Serve. When partners like step up, it empowers us to keep showing up for the community. Speaking of showing up: have you considered bringing your work group or your family to serve with us?

Our Charlotte Saturday Serve happens every 3rd Saturday. We meet at 7th Street Market and partner with Crisis Assistance Ministry to make a real impact.

A Present Help Movement

Caregiving is a profound act of love, but it was never intended to be a solo mission. In our latest installment of "The Caregiver’s Blueprint" series: inspired by the expert insights of Lisa Washington: we are focusing on a vital necessity: Building Your Support System.

As Founder and President of Present Help Movement, I’ve seen how the weight of responsibility can lead to burnout when carried alone. My partner and Vice President, Tonya Glenn, and I advocate for the power of delegation. Asking for help isn't a sign of weakness; it’s a strategy for sustainability. By sharing the load, we ensure every interaction of dignity and love remains heartfelt and present for our neighbors.

Whether you are in Charlotte, NC; Washington, DC; Maryland (Prince George’s, Montgomery, and Charles Counties); or Virginia (Arlington and Alexandria), we are building a network where no one serves in isolation.

June 7 has been officially declared Diaspora Heritage Day in Charlotte by Mayor Vi Alexander Lyles : and Heritage Social Brunch is the experience at the center of it. This is not just brunch. This is the room the city is celebrating.

As the Founder and President of Present Help Movement, I know that our impact is only as strong as the leaders standing behind it. That’s why I’m proud to spotlight Dianna Cutts.

As our Treasurer, Dianna is the backbone of our financial health. She keeps our mission grounded with her expert focus on compliance, reporting, and internal audits. To some, this might just look like numbers, but to us, it is stewardship. Her dedication ensures that every resource we have is positioned to serve our neighbors through an interaction of dignity and love.

To our DMV family: We are out serving every first Saturday of the month (except holidays) at the Harborside Hotel. We couldn’t do this work without the strength of our partners at UCAP.
