Join us as we continue our stroll down memory lane...

Meet 2019 Summer Sustainability Research Fellow Rana Turkmani, a Chemical Engineering major and 2020 graduate. Last summer, Rana had an exciting 4-week international sustainability research experience in Uganda with the UKATS team. Rana worked with faculty mentor Dr. Jeffrey Seay, graduate research advisor Chandni Joshi on the "Development and Analysis of a Waste Plastic Generation Profile for Kampala, Uganda" with sustainability as a key driving force.

Rana's research team in Uganda consisted of four students that were divided into two groups. One team was mainly handling the assembly and distribution of six 3T Processors between Kampala and Bugiri as well as providing training to locals. Rana's team was tasked with meetings for collecting data and learning tools to analyze the data.

"This has been a wonderful experience for me. I was able to see how engineering appropriate technology like I worked with can improve peoples lives and the difference that it can make in the world. This experience will forever be with me as I continue on through graduate or medical school." -Rana
