Our crews responded to a working structure fire this morning in the Windmill Pointe community. 🔥🚒

The initial 911 call was received at 0634 hours, prompting a response from East Lake, Palm Harbor, Tarpon Springs, Oldsmar, Safety Harbor, Sunstar, and Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.

The Squad 57 crew arrived first on scene and reported a garage fire with smoke showing from a residential structure. Thanks to the rapid response of all responding units, firefighters were able to quickly bring the fire under control and limit the extent of the damage.

A notable factor in this incident was the homeowner’s immediate call to 911 upon discovering smoke. Her prompt actions allowed emergency responders to be dispatched without delay, with crews arriving on scene within approximately three minutes of dispatch. The combination of an early notification and aggressive fire suppression efforts by our firefighters confined the majority of the damage to the room of origin and helped preserve thousands of dollars in property and personal belongings.

Fortunately, no firefighters, residents, or pets were injured during the incident. The homeowners expressed their sincere appreciation for the professionalism, rapid response, and decisive actions of all firefighters involved. The origin and cause of the fire remain under investigation.

Behind every emergency response, we've put in many hours of hands-on training. These sessions with our heavy-duty door prop allow firefighters to sharpen the skills needed to quickly and safely gain access during emergencies.

Using specialized simulators designed to mimic real residential and commercial doors, crews build muscle memory, teamwork, and confidence while training with tools like the Halligan and flat-head axe in a controlled but highly realistic environment. 💪🧑‍🚒

🚨 June is National Gun Safety Month! 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗱𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻 𝘂𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗴𝘂𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝘂𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝗿. Unintentional shootings involving children can happen at any age.

🔒 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻 𝗯𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗺𝘀 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝗹𝘆:

1️⃣ Keep guns 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 of children by storing them securely. Leaving a firearm unsecured on a nightstand, table, or anywhere a child can access it can lead to tragedy.

2️⃣ Store guns 𝘂𝗻𝗹𝗼𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗱 and secured with an effective, child-resistant gun lock inside a 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗿.

3️⃣ Store ammunition in a 𝘀𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗿, also out of the reach and sight of children.

👏🚒 Chief Sullivan recently recognized the 58-A Crew for their outstanding work transforming a recently acquired brush truck into a great-looking addition to our fleet.

The crew stripped, sanded, primed, and painted the truck themselves to match our fleet colors, and the results look spectacular. 🔥🎨🚒

Their hard work, initiative, and attention to detail helped save the department significant downtime and expense compared to sending the brush truck to an outside paint shop.
