Communication: Listen to Understand

Most of us listen to respond, not to understand.

A helpful shift is to practice reflective listening. When someone shares, repeat back: “What I hear you saying is…” This doesn’t mean you agree, but it shows you’re listening.

In counseling, we use this often with couples and families—it reduces defensiveness and builds trust. Communication is less about winning an argument and more about creating connection. Practice listening today—you may be surprised how it changes the tone. 🗣️

The clothing room quarter sale is scheduled for September 18, 20, and 25.

The Clothing Room at First Christian Church of Paris, KY is open Thursdays 8:30-11:30 and the third Saturday of each month from 9-11. Located in the church basement, entrance is through the glass double doors by the mailbox. We offer clothing for all ages, including men's, women's, and children's options, as well as some household items.
