Friends and Neighbors ~

For the last four years, I have had the privilege of representing you as Alderperson for the Second Ward. Many of you know that, prior to that, I spent four years representing you on the Park Ridge-Niles Consolidated School District #64 as a school board member. During my tenure on the School Board and City Council, I have strived, to the best of my abilities, to live up to the oaths I have taken and to the considerable responsibilities to which you entrusted me. Today, I am announcing my intention to run for reelection and am seeking your continued trust to represent your interests in the Second Ward of the City of Park Ridge for a second term.

During my time on Council, I have done my best to ensure that we get one hundred cents of value for every dollar we spend. The City of Park Ridge owes that to every single tax paying resident. To that end, I have supported new revenue streams to the City, while opposing handouts and subsidies to companies wishing to do business within the City. During my first term on the City Council, I have voted to prevent any increase in the tax levy. Although the tax levy for the city represents about 10% of your tax bill, it is important that the money obtained through those taxes is spent wisely and for the benefit of everyone in the community. Indeed, the Council on which I have served has abated or kept taxes flat the last four years.

I have kept my commitment to be a strong proponent for the Second Ward in funding projects. Our sewers have been lined, miles of our neighborhood roads have been repaved since being elected, and most significantly, the City has taken a historic and monumental step to help with flooding in our ward. Last May, the Park Ridge City Council unanimously approved purchasing property at 1730 Elliott St. with the intention of later building a pump station, which the hope this size and scope of this project will provide long needed flood relief to this area of our ward. This was the first time in recent memory residents erupted in cheers following City Council action. Critically, we were able to secure this property before the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District started their grand Dempster sewer project, which will further increase the size of the sewers on that road and help Park Ridge move additional flood waters out of the City. The MWRD project, on its own, is projected “to protect more than 100 homes, businesses and streets in Park Ridge and Maine Township.

I would like your support for another term to bring the rest of that project to fruition and accomplish something our Ward has been in dire need for decades.

As a City, we have turned a corner from Covid, as developments and new businesses have taken root. Properties in town that were once vacant now have thriving businesses, are currently under development, or are the focus of future projects.

Those of you who know me understand that I have an affinity for public service and volunteerism, as reflected in my time on the school board and various community memberships. I was a founding member of the Park Ridge Holiday Lights Committee, Not-for-Profit, which lit the Uptown and South Park areas of the City for the winter holidays for almost five years before 2021. During the summer months, you can find me heading up volunteer efforts with the Taste of Park Ridge, as a member of the Taste of Park Ridge Committee. The Taste of Park Ridge is a civic celebration highlighting local food vendors, while providing exceptional free entertaining and other family activities. I am proud to say I have organized our volunteer crews since 2016, and I have had so much fun meeting so many kind and generous neighbors through those efforts. This year, I co-chaired a brand new event in the City of Park Ridge with my wife, Stephanie, called Park Ridge Market after Dark, which is run by our Park Ridge Chamber of Commerce. This event brought much needed visitors to our Park Ridge and our Uptown business. It also brought a new revenue source to the Park Ridge Chamber of Commerce so it can continue to hold so many cherished events like Winterfest and the First Friday Car Shows. The event was a big success with many out of towners visiting our city for the first time.

Park Ridge has been a big part of my life, and that of my wife, as it has been a wonderful place for us to raise our Brady Bunch six for so many reasons: the beauty, charm, and small town feel of our city; the excellent schools; and the amazing people I am fortunate enough to call my friends and neighbors. If fortunate enough to be reelected, I intend to preserve the character and allure of Park Ridge or, as we liked to call it on Holiday Lights, Bedford Falls. As with Bedford Falls, this city has a bigheartedness lacking in many places these days. The residents of the Second Ward reflect a diversity of religion, races, and opinions, but, at the end of the day, we pull for one another during the tough times. That is just what Park Ridge does.

It would be my honor to serve for a second term in the city in which I was raised. To that end, I respectfully and humbly ask for your vote and support for Second Ward Alderperson in next April’s 2025 Consolidated Election. I look forward to speaking to and hearing from many of you about the issues at the forefront of your minds and welcome your ideas and input.

Your friend and neighbor,

Fred
