Bingo Reverse Mortgage

In May 2014, FINRA updated its stance on Reverse Mortgages (HECMs).

They moved away from calling them a “loan of last resort” and instead recognized that, with the added safeguards in place, they can be used prudently as part of a retirement planning strategy.

Quick update on the Federal Reserve announcement today and what it means for the market:

The Fed decided to hold the federal funds rate steady at 4.25%–4.50%, which is where it’s been since December. This is the fifth meeting in a row with no rate change. What made today’s decision interesting is that two Fed governors actually voted against it—pushing for a rate cut instead. That hasn’t happened since 1993.

The Fed cited slower economic growth, stubborn inflation, and concerns around global tariffs as reasons to stay cautious. They’re continuing to take a wait-and-see approach, letting incoming data guide their next move.

So what does that mean for us?

Mortgage rates are expected to stay relatively flat in the short term. We’re not likely to see any big drops just yet, but there’s a growing chance of a cut in September if inflation continues to ease. This keeps us in a holding pattern, but it’s also a window for buyers who’ve been on the fence—they may want to move before competition increases if rates eventually dip.
