Prayers for the firefighters and families

Two Houston firefighters were injured in the line of duty after a dangerous apartment fire escalated quickly and turned even more serious.

Flames and heavy smoke were already showing when crews arrived, and the fire quickly grew to a second alarm. While battling the blaze, a second-floor balcony suddenly collapsed, sending a captain and firefighter to the ground.

Both were taken to the hospital.

In total, 14 apartment units were affected, leaving multiple families displaced tonight. Red Cross officials have been contacted.

The fire is now out, but arson investigators are on scene working to determine what sparked it.
