Last night the St Lawrence County Board of Legislators considered a resolution on the CARE Act, which would require clergy and other religious leaders to report child abuse. The resolution failed.

To Harry Smithers (R), Margaret Haggard (D), and Nicole Terminelli (D) who led a bipartisan effort to pass the resolution, we are grateful. To the opposition: your children deserve better. We will continue to fight for their safety even if you won’t.

To all my friends in the North Country ~ see where your county legislators stand on making Clergy mandatory reporters - Quite frankly, any clergy that would not report child abuse if not following any God - they are following their own power! Have we learned nothing from the horrific decades of sexual abuse in the Catholic Church????
