A Less Plastic Life

Frogs for the Cure for Komen of TCU – Texas Christian University, has been polluting the Earth with annual balloon releases for the last 9 years to raise funds for Susan G. Komen. This year's event, held last Saturday, was filmed for a video that's hoped to be "the biggest breast cancer video in history". They partnered with Green River Ordinance, who plan on adding the footage to their new music video.

*Mass Littering Event Today*
At the first touchdown of every home game Nebraska Huskers has been releasing thousands of balloons. This time honored tradition began over 60 years ago. There was some concern over Helium supplies in 2012, but UNL felt those issues were resolved and continue with their regular mass littering events. The University of Nebraska-Lincoln also includes balloon releases at homecoming events, memorials, and celebrations. We understand the University is making efforts to be more sustainable. However, wasting a finite resource and tossing thousands of pieces of trash to litter the countryside and endanger wildlife is a tradition that needs to come to an end.

Poor tree, not the appropriate holiday decor. I spotted it on Monday, came back to clean up today, because you know the plastic bags are not going anywhere! And.... I knew NOBODY else would clean it up! I had a small ladder, but I was still not able to get it all. So much on the tree it looked like snow. I'm glad I was able to get some of it! Unfortunately the rest will be there for a very long time.
