Stonewall Day is commemorated on June 28 annually. In 1969, the Stonewall Uprising was a series of events between police and LGBTQ individuals which stretched over 6 days. Stonewall wasn't the first bar to be raided by police looking for LGBTQ individuals to arrest but it was a turning point of LGBTQ activism. Many misinformation has been spread about Stonewall. According to Stonewall Veterans it wasn't a riot, it was a uprising/rebellion and records show that no one died during this uprising. June 26th is the anniversary of the US Supreme Court legalizing marriage equality. For 11 years now, the LGBTQIA+ community have been able to have their marriages recognized by the US government. Even though some people have tried to get this decision reversed, there will always be people who continue to fight for this basic human right.

Juneteenth is a day of freedom; honoring history and progress. This day is to celebrate the end of slavery in the US that happened officially in 1865 when over 250,000 enslaved Black people were informed 2 1/2 years after the emancipation proclamation that they were free. We want to spotlight the voices, history, and stories of these individuals. For more info: https://nmaahc.si.edu/explore/stories/historical-legacy-juneteenth
