Saturday, 13 June 2026 - Another hot and humid morning greeted us at the field, but this time crosswinds from the north added an extra challenge to the day. The shifting winds made landings more demanding and required pilots to stay focused throughout their flights.
Being club meeting day, the flight line was busier than usual, and it was great to see such a strong turnout. For today's flying session, I brought out the latest Freewing F-22A Raptor 90mm V2 and the Freewing F/A-18C Hornet Blue Angels Number 5 90mm.
As always, the Raptor did not disappoint. Its smooth handling and predictable flight characteristics continue to make it one of my favorite aircraft to fly. The Hornet, on the other hand, reminded me of an important lesson: regular practice is mandatory. While the flights were successful, it took a little more effort to stay ahead of the aircraft and maintain the precision needed, especially with the challenging crosswind conditions.
The day was not without its issues. Most likely due to the heat and humidity, both my DJI Action 5 camera and Spektrum iX20 transmitter experienced software crashes. The camera locked up during operation, and the iX20 AirWare crashed while a flight was in progress. Fortunately, neither incident resulted in the loss of an aircraft, but they certainly got my attention and served as a reminder that extreme weather conditions can affect more than just pilots and airplanes.
Despite the challenges, both aircraft returned home safely, and the day provided plenty of valuable stick time, good company, and lessons learned.
