The infamous Bodega Red  — the legendary rose-faced potato that sailed into Sonoma folklore and one of only SIX potato varieties believed to have come directly from South America to California .

Some say a homesick Chilean sailor jumped ship at Bodega Bay with the tubers in his coat; others whisper the seeds were sown into the wedding dress of Manuela Torres to earn a land grant... It fed the Forty-Niners in Gold Rush camps, and even gave “Spud Point” its name after a barge of them sank.

By the 1970s, it had all but disappeared—until Slow Food Sonoma County North stepped in (2006), tracked down anonymous tubers, and sent them to the USDA, which confirmed their unique Chilean origins in 2009. Now, a Presidium project in Slow Food’s Ark of Taste, over 13,500 lbs of certified seed have revitalized growing across Sonoma County—from farms to kitchens to farmer’s‑market tables.

We are proud to be one of the few farms out here offering these gem of gems.

But truly, our hats go off to you  for reviving this tuber from legend to plate.

Who doesn’t love peak strawflower season?

These beauties hold their color and shape better than just about anything, thriving through heat, wind, and long harvest days. Lately, they’ve been adding the perfect texture to our summer market bouquets — and the rest? Some of you have already seen them hanging to dry at the stand, waiting to bring a little brightness to winter days.

Definitely a favorite of ours — flowers that never truly fade, in all their color and character.
