Happy Independence Day... almost.

On July 2, 1776, the Continental Congress passed the Lee Resolution, formally declaring that the colonies "are, and of right ought to be, free and independent States." It was the decisive vote that severed political ties with Great Britain. John Adams believed this would be the day future generations celebrated as Independence Day. But it wasn't until two days later that Congress formally adopted the Declaration of Independence, and July 4th became the date remembered by history.

The birth of our nation was drawing ever closer—a legacy that would lay the foundation for the freedoms we continue to cherish, including the right to keep and bear arms.
