😿Jerry Steel is a handsome two-year-old kitty who was found wandering the streets of Philly alone, and was brought to the shelter after his finder noticed a severe eye infection. Jerry has spent a month in the shelter, but unfortunately his eye issues have not resolved despite multiple courses of medication. On July 8th, Jerry was noted to have a ruptured corneal ulcer requiring urgent removal of the eye (enucleation) in order for Jerry to have a pain-free future.
Jerry has been a shy and reserved kitty during his shelter stay. While nervous, this gorgeous boy has been a very well-mannered for all of his medical examinations and treatments. Jerry would thrive in a quiet space where he can make a full recovery from his enucleation and come out of his shell at his own pace. In order to receive the care he needs, this sweet boy urgently requires placement with a rescue partner by Wednesday, July 15th at 10am.
Medical
A veterinary exam on June 15th noted that Jerry Steel had a body condition score of 6/9. He was found to have conjunctivitis, with mucoid discharge noted in both eyes. He was estimated to be around two years old.
A recheck exam on 6/24 noted that while Jerry Steel had finished his seven-day course of the erythromycin ointment, he was continuing to have mild discharge from both eyes, with a possible ocular ulcer in the left eye. He was noted to have mild fluorescein eye stain in this eye. Jerry was started on a seven-day course of ofloxacin, and his courses of famciclovir and gabapentin were extended.
A veterinary recheck exam on 7/8 noted that Jerry Steel’s right eye showed focal lateral corneal opacity, but was otherwise within normal limits. However, Jerry was found to have a ruptured corneal ulcer with anterior synechiae, neovascularization, mucoid discharge, and blepharospasm in his left eye. He was noted to require enucleation (removal of the eye). He tested negative for FIV and FeLV.
Behavior
On 6/15, Jerry Steel was described as “scared” by the finder.
During a 6/15 medical exam, Jerry was noted to be “scared, timid.”
A staff member noted on 6/16 that Jerry Steel was “BAR, fearful, but very tolerant of handling.”

😿Pine, is a beautiful 3 year old spayed female who arrived at ACCT Philly on June 1st. Pine was brought in by her community caregiver after sustaining an injury. She is described as friendly, cuddly, and playful, and she has previously spent time indoors. While she is a community favorite, her medical needs now require a more stable environment than our high-volume shelter can provide.
On June 2nd, Pine’s wound was cleaned, and she underwent a repair on June 7th. Unfortunately, due to the location under her right axilla (armpit), the wound dehisced nine days post-operation. While the wound is healing slowly and she remains stable with a great appetite, she may require a second wound repair. She is currently "Rescue Only" due to this injury, which requires ongoing medical monitoring and follow-up care. Additionally, Pine underwent a spay procedure after it was discovered she was in her third trimester of pregnancy at the time of intake. She has remained bright, alert, and comfortable during her recovery.
Pine has maintained an incredibly positive attitude, and we are confident she will make a wonderful indoor companion once fully healed. We currently have an interested foster through a rescue, as well as interest from her original finder regarding adoption; we are happy to share these leads with any rescue partner that can pull her. Approximately 2-3 cm area of erythematous granulation tissue noted in right axillary region. No purulent discharge noted.

BAR, eating and drinking well in care with normal eliminations. Wound repair in right axilla has completely dehisced. Skin is adhered again at the edges, and wound bed is healthy with good granulation tissue present. Wound bed is approximately 3-4cm diameter
Assessment
Complete dehiscence of axillary wound repair site, healthy tissue
Plan
Axillary wounds are challenging due to high range of motion, and dehiscence is not uncommon. Tissue is currently healthy, but wound bed surface area is large and second intention healing in this location is also challenging. To remain rescue only at this time. Consider additional wound repair intervention when surgical capacity allows.

“Went to Pine’s kennel to meet her. She at first shrunk away, but the second I gave her gentle head scratches she melted. She leaned in for more pets and enjoyed head and chin scratches. The second I stopped petting her, she reached her paw out at me seeking more attention, completely melting my heart. What a sweet baby!”

"Pine was quietly observing staff as they interacted with other animals in the room. When staff approached her kennel, she calmly came forward, giving a gentle stretch before approaching for attention. Pine readily accepted pets and remained relaxed throughout the interaction, displaying a very calm and gentle demeanor. She appeared comfortable with handling and sought out affection in a quiet, sweet manner. Pine's behavior during this interaction was friendly, composed, and affectionate.”

😿3 year old Lee came to ACCT Philly on July 7th after being picked up as a stray, reportedly after being hit by a car. He arrived with injuries that our medical team has been treating and monitoring closely.
While the shelter has been a little overwhelming for Lee, he's already showing what a sweet boy he is. He's a bit nervous at first, but with a little patience and a gentle head pet, he begins to relax. Once he feels comfortable, he happily leans into chin scritches and head rubs, quietly soaking up the affection. Lee just needs someone willing to give him the time and space to let his personality shine.
Although he's been receiving treatment, Lee's liver enzyme values have continued to increase, and he will need further diagnostics and supportive care to determine the underlying cause. Due to these medical concerns, Lee is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner who can provide the care he needs.

Weighed 7.5 lbs, a 10% weight gain since intake. Jaundice and hyperbilirubinemia had resolved. Bloodwork showed elevated liver enzymes (ALT, ALP, and GGT), elevated globulin, and low creatinine and BUN.
7/7 Vet Exam
Mild scleral hemorrhage of the right eye and superficial abrasions on the hind paws. Icteric with hyperbilirubinemia, suspected to be secondary to trauma. Bloodwork showed low HCT, creatinine, BUN, albumin, and globulin, and elevated neutrophils, ALT, and total bilirubin.
7/7 Triage Exam
Weighed 6.8 lbs and was estimated to be about 3 years old. His teeth were slightly yellow and his coat was mildly dirty.

I went to say hi to Lee, and I put him briefly inside a kennel so I could get to know him. He was inside the feral den in a fearfully defensive stance. However, he allowed me to pet him all over, and seemed to slowly began to enjoy head pets & chin scritches. He even had a slow elevator butt when I began to pet him in that area. Super cute boy!

😿One year old Curry previously lived in a home with several other cats and came to ACCT Philly on July 11th after her owner passed away. She's still adjusting to all the changes in her life and has been quiet and reserved in the shelter, but she has been very tolerant of handling. While she isn't quite ready to seek out affection, she calmly accepts gentle pets and handling, suggesting she may simply need time to settle into a new environment.
When Curry arrived, she had fleas and scattered scabs on her skin. She has also experienced intermittent wheezing, and our veterinarians suspect she may have asthma or another chronic lower airway condition that could require long-term management. Due to her medical concerns, Curry is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner or experienced adopter.

7/14 Recheck
Intermittent wheezing, suspected chronic lower airway disease. One episode of vomiting. Prescribed Cerenia, and a monitor sheet for appetite and vomiting was placed. Asthma is a concern and may require long-term management.
7/13 Vet Exam
Reported to be wheezing. A sedated exam was performed during her spay. No wheezing or crackling sounds were heard in her lungs at that time. Small scabs were noted scattered across her skin. Chest x-rays did not show any concerning abnormalities, and she tested negative for FIV and FeLV.
7/12 Intake Exam
Curry weighed 7.6 pounds with a lean body condition. She was estimated to be about 1.5 years old. Flea dirt and live fleas were present in her coat, and her adult teeth showed faint yellow staining.

Curry was very tolerant of pets, but did not react at all. She did not lean in to or back away from pets on her head and back, cheek scratches, or butt scratches.

😿16 year old Summertime came to ACCT Philly on July 13th after being abandoned in our lobby. While we don't know much about his past, we do know he's a senior gentleman who has been dealing with chronic ear issues for several years.
Despite everything, Summertime is an absolute sweetheart. During a recent visit, he happily greeted staff for pets before wandering over to his food bowl, where he purred contentedly while enjoying both his meal and the extra attention. He's a social, food-motivated boy who seems completely at ease around people and is always happy to soak up affection.
As a senior cat, Summertime does have some medical needs. He has a heart murmur, muscle wasting, chronic ear issues, and elevated calcium levels that will likely require additional diagnostics and ongoing veterinary care. Due to his medical concerns, Summertime is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner so he can receive the care he needs while enjoying the comfort and love he deserves.

7/14 Vet Exam
Nuclear sclerosis of both eyes. Left ear has a scarred pinna with severe dark ceruminous debris. Grade III/VI heart murmur. Small areas of matting around the head and ears. Weak in the hind end but ambulatory, with diffuse muscle wasting. Treated for ear mites and had matted fur shaved. Bloodwork showed mildly elevated kidney values, calcium, total protein, and globulin; all other values were within normal limits. Consider ionized calcium testing to determine if true hypercalcemia is present.
7/13 Per staff conversation with owner before owner abandoned Summertime in the lobby
Not suffering. He is still eating / drinking, just walking "slow". Does not whine or cry like he's in pain at any point. Still uses the bathroom normally. Asked what the ear issue was, owner does not know. Took him to the vet over 6 years ago, is unsure just knows the surgery they wanted to do was too expensive.

I spent a few minutes with Summertime today, and he was just lovely! He came right up to me for pets, and after a few seconds he walked over to his food & started happily eating & purring while being receptive to more pets. Definitely a social eater and just a wonderful dude. He is going to be a fantastic cat for whoever adopts him.
