Whenever people ask me if I get tired of shooting at the beach all of the time. And honestly, I don’t - not even a little!
The light is never the same twice - some nights, it’s all gold and soft and slow, and some nights it’s sharp and bright and gone before you’re ready for it. Thirty minutes makes a whole different evening, and it changes from beach to beach, too. Cape May Point doesn’t look anything like Wildwood Crest, and even thought they’re so close, Stone Harbor and Avalon give a different vibe. The colors are just different! Maybe you’d never notice, but I always do.
It’s the same reason it’s tricky when a couple sends me a photo from another session and asks for that exact shot. I get it, but that light was a one-night thing - it already came and went. We can chase the same feeling, we just can’t get the same exact photo. And usually what we find instead is so much better, because it’s actually yours.
And then there’s you. Every couple is different - the way two people stand on a beach at 7pm, the way they laugh, the way they hold each other, the way they forget I’m there. So even on a beach I’ve shot a hundred times, I’ve never shot it like this.

If you’re trying to decide where to do your engagement session in Cape May, here’s my case for doing two spots:
Start at Congress Hall - The yellow building, the lawn, the porch. It’s the most iconic spot in town for a reason!
End at the Point - Dunes, beach grass, golden light and the most colorful sunset. It’s quiet and wild, and we usually have the beach all to ourselves.
Only fifteen minutes apart, but two completely different sessions. You don’t have to pick one Cape May - you can have both.

It’s Alli & Brendan’s wedding day in Cape May! Posting a few from their engagement session because I am too excited to keep it to myself. These two (and their people) are the kind of fun that makes a wedding day fly by. I’ll see you in a few hours, friends. 🤍
