Project that included me making a custom standing desk, bench and hutch.

I love doing restoration. It’s not about making the wood look new but just bringing out its natural beauty. On this project of restoring this trim I carefully stripped the lead paint and finish that was on the wood. I then brushed on a couple coats of dewaxed shellac and a top coat. I also applied a custom wax finish. There is a little detail I like to do and it was taught to me by a close friend and mentor. He taught me to leave a little wax (grunge mix) in the crevices to mimic the years of maintenance that used to go into maintaining wood. Back in the day when people maintained their wood and didn’t look for a finish that lasted 50 years people would wax and polish. Every time they would wax and polish they would leave behind a little bit and it would gradually fill in those crevices. There is a lot of detail that can happen in wood working. I love doing this kind of work and it’s like keeping something alive of my friend Frank even though he’s no longer here physically. Don’t worry Frank your wax recipe is safe with me unless someone wants to cash app me for the recipe. 😀😀😀. Just kidding.
