The 2026 Kayla Nakonechni Knight Award recipient is ... The Madelyn James Pediatric Cancer Foundation!

The Madelyn James Pediatric Cancer Foundation was founded by Jackie and Dan Didio in honor of their daughter, Madelyn “Maddy” Didio, who died at 14 months old from infant leukemia. Witnessing families forced to choose between financial survival and staying by their baby’s side during treatment, they created Madelyn James to increase access and equity in pediatric cancer care. The foundation provides deep, customized, whole-family support to under-resourced families with babies and toddlers facing high-risk cancer. They address financial, housing, transportation and emotional needs so caregivers can focus on their child’s survival. By investing significantly in a small number of high-need families rather than serving many shallowly, Madelyn James ensures families can remain with their children throughout treatment and never have to choose between financial stability and life-saving care.
