Edward D. Viner was a visionary physician who epitomized humanistic care.

Over sixty years of practice, Dr. Viner left an indelible mark on patients, students, residents, and colleagues. He founded the first hospice program in the Delaware Valley, testified before the U.S. House Select Committee on Aging, and led the Department of Medicine at Cooper University Health Care for two decades.

In envisioning CMSRU, Dr. Viner coined the phrase, “A medical school with a soul,” and he launched the Center for Humanism in 2019 to ensure we remain dedicated to that concept. Within the Center, he built a dedicated community of scholars and learners who share and promote his vision of humanistic healthcare education, practice, and advocacy.
