The heat and the holiday are not stopping our team. We just picked up and loaded in a ton of good stuff thanks to The People’s Fridge! Here’s how we’re looking Saturday afternoon. Happy 4th everyone, don’t forget to drink water, care for your community, and please come get some bananas.

You’re donations in action:
We had to make an emergency produce run in place of our normal Friday pickup to make sure folks had some options going into the holiday weekend. Everything was purchased with donated funds. Please consider contributing to our grocery fund Venmo to make purchases like produce and water possible. Can’t donate money? That’s ok! Feel free to drop off labeled BBQ leftovers or water this weekend.

👀To the neighbor who dropped off water ice and ice cream, stay awesome.

You can donate here, even a few dollars adds up to do good things.

Schools out! This means a fun few months for kids, but can also put added stress on parents now providing at least 5 extra meals a week.

There are student meal sites across Philly for student, no ID required.

There’s a site at Fox Chase Legacy Tennis at the playground, but find more sites near you here:

The coolest side effect of the fridge is the community it is building. This morning, a volunteer loaded and hauled an impressive amount of produce from a local partner. But when she got to the fridge neighbors stopped to help her unload and chat, they made the work lighter and brighter.

Thank you to Joanne, Jennifer, and William for helping stock our shelves this morning. Thank you to the people who are showing up in any way they can to care for the fridge and care for their community. Thanks to Caring for Friends for providing us beautiful produce every Friday!

Let’s keep connecting and growing! ☀️

Anyone can help our neighbors by shopping our Amazon Wishlist! You can stock important pantry staples that ship right to a volunteer’s home and then get added to the community pantry ASAP!

Prime Day runs tomorrow thru Friday, so let’s use it to do some good. As we always say, every small act of kindness adds up to make a big impact.

Our volunteer team wants to give a big thank you to the anonymous shopper who generously purchased these items from our wishlist. Your support means a lot to us, and a lot to our community. 🤗

Please share to spread the word!

Many of our neighbors are loosing their SNAP benefits, many of our neighbors are on a fixed income, many of our neighbors have kids home from school and have to think about more meals, many of our neighbors don’t have a kitchen or the ability to cook. They often turn to the fridge.

We need to scale up rapidly to meet the growing demand in our community. We are looking to partner with local places looking to take direct action.

Are you a businesses owner who wants to help? Do you work at a place who throws away perfectly good food? Do you think we can partner for a fundraiser? Reach out! We’ll do all the heavy lifting.

Please share!

It’s a beautiful day and a lot of you are in your gardens. Before you know it, you might have a ton of extra fruits, veggies, and herbs on your hands! Consider sharing the extras directly with your community by dropping them off at the fridge! You can even track your donations on the Fresh Food Connect app! Just enter your zip code, and it will connect you with your closest registered pantry. Don’t see your zip? Feel free to stop by anyway! All are welcome to leave what they can.

We’re getting our butts kicked by this heatwave. Everyone is feeling it, but high temps can be unsafe for our neighbors without air conditioning or with health concerns. Help keeps folks hydrated! We’ll also take ice packs from food or medicine deliveries to help keep things cold!

Some of you have asked about where we get the food that we stock for our community. It’s a mix of items we pickup from pantry partners, neighbor contributions, and staples we buy with crowd sourced funds.

Let us introduce one of our partners, Sharing Excess!

In 2016 founder Evan Ehlers was a student at Drexel, and began using his extra meal swipes to hand out meals across Philadelphia. Since then, Sharing Excess has grown to multiple cities and rescues over 2 million pounds of food a week. Over the last 10 years, they have distributed over 100 million meals by working with farmers, grocers, and wholesalers to provide surplus food to local pantries and community fridges.

We partnered with these lovely folks at the beginning of the year and they continue to provide us great stuff for you every Tuesday!

Stay tuned next week to meet another partner that helps us make the fridge possible!
