Taxpayers May Be Eligible for Refunds and Abatements from 2020-2023.

The Kwong ruling found that IRS deadlines during the COVID-19 disaster period were legally extended further than originally announced. Taxpayers may have been charged assessed penalties and interest between 2020 and 2023 that shouldn't have applied. Although on appeal, this ruling may result in millions of people taxpayers receiving that money back but eligible for refunds, but only if a protective claim is filed before the July 10, 2026 deadline.
