🎉 Congratulations to former Bartol Teaching Artist Micro-Grantee Kareem B. Goodwin on being selected as a 2026–27 Dance Research Fellow at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts!
Kareem's project, The Weight That Isn’t Mine Alone: Rituals of Falling, Carrying, and Becoming, explores the Limón dance technique through the lens of Black embodiment, examining themes of lineage, humanity, belonging, and survival. The project reexamines José Limón's legacy through the lens of migration, identity, and belonging. By combining modern dance principles with jazz and Afro-diasporic movement, Kareem explores how these influential techniques can be understood, embodied, and transformed through a Black contemporary dance practice. He is reimagining foundational modern dance principles while honoring the cultural histories that shape them.
As one of this year's fellows, Kareem will receive a $10,000 stipend and dedicated support from the Library's Jerome Robbins Dance Division as he develops this important work over the next six months.
We are proud to have supported Kareem's artistic journey through the Bartol Teaching Artist Micro-Grant and are thrilled to see his work recognized on a national stage.
Please join us in congratulating on this incredible achievement! 👏⭐️
