While this day in Galveston in 1865 marked the end of a shameful part of our country’s history, the efforts to repair harm and create equity continue today.

1040Creative! is a cultural hub and gallery from founder and multi-media artist and activist Pauline Houston McCall that offers art classes and pop-up workshops for all ages.

Black Dragon offers a fusion of Black American cuisine and classic Chinese American takeout presentation and aesthetics. Chef Kurt Evan’s mission is to honor both Black and Chinese American culture while hopefully providing quick, hot (and delicious) meals in communities where they are not always readily available.

Style by Blain. Offering high-end classic and custom footwear, founder Voltaire Blain has eschewed online sales in favor of a customer-service focused experience. Visit his shop to see exquisite shoes displayed on the antique pool table and the paintings of dandily-dressed anthropomorphized animals.
