I.G.P SELLU AND ROAD SAFETY AUTHORITY EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR LEAD A MAJOR CLEARING EXERCISE IN CLINE TOWN.

Demonstrating the security sector’s continued support to Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, the Inspector General of Police, Mr. William Fayia Sellu, on Thursday, 4 December 2025, joined the Executive Director of the Road Safety Authority, Mr. James Bio, in a major operation to remove parked and abandoned vehicles from Jenneh Wright Road, Ross Road, and Fourah Bay Road in Cline Town, Freetown.

The joint effort aimed to ease the hardship faced by drivers and commuters who rely heavily on these vital roadways for their daily movements.

For months, these corridors had been heavily obstructed by unused trailers and container trucks awaiting movement to the Quay. A short journey that should last only a few minutes often turned into hours, creating severe inconvenience for motorists, passengers, and residents.

According to pedestrians observing the operation, the persistent congestion also forced commercial vehicles to halt mid-route on trips to and from the eastern parts of Freetown and Waterloo, further intensifying commuters’ challenges.

With the roads now cleared and traffic flowing freely again, many pedestrians have experienced relief, especially those who previously had to walk long distances after work. The exercise is also expected to reduce the double- and triple-fare charges that commuters frequently faced due to blocked access.

Community members and road users have praised the intervention, calling it timely and effective. They also expressed optimism that authorities will enforce strict measures to prevent abandoned vehicles from again occupying the routes.

This project will create special zones for business and sustainable growth, with a new development authority established to oversee the process.
