Today marks the day 4 years ago I was at end stage cystic fibrosis. I woke up to do my morning chest treatments and breathing treatments. I took off my bi-pap and took a breathe in and felt a sharp sting in my right lung. I started to feel light headed, faint. I told the respiratory therapist to call the nurse. She peaked in and saw I was pale white and was literally about to pass out. My right lung had popped and collapsed. That was the end. They called the crash cart team/rapid rush; they quickly analyzed what they thought was going on. I laid there not able to breath, tears running down my face, thinking of when the last time I told my parents or siblings that I loved them. I was in the hospital alone, just doctors, nurses, respiratory therapist, and others surrounding me. I held the hands of doctors and . They assured me I would be okay. But I was hardly able to breath and afraid of closing my eyes for the last time. The x-ray machine wasn’t working so they resorted to an ultra sound machine. They poked a needle through my chest and inserted a tube to release pressure from my chest so my lungs could not inflate again. I was on chest tubes till transplant came. One of the scariest moments of my life. Always remember to tell the ones you love how you feel. Never know when you’ll lose the opportunity to do so. I’m thankful for those in that room that day. God said he wasn’t done, and neither am I.
