It's a very special day here today for a very special boy. ❤️ I don't know how it happened but, baby Gus is somehow 4 years old today!! 🎂🐾
Every year that you get to celebrate with your babies is special. In some cases, though, it's a little extra special.
As you may have noticed from my logo and photos, Dobermans are "my" breed. Some of you may not be aware that Dobes come with a pretty hefty list of health concerns to watch for. One of the main ones being heart disease. It's always a risk but, in Gus' case his genetics are... well, not favorable in that respect. We've already had some unnerving test results so we watch him very closely.
We invested in a holter monitoring system years ago (think 24hr ECG), he gets regular echocardiograms, sees a special vet for holistic support in addition to his regular vet and chiropractor. We do every. single. thing. that I can think of to make sure he (and his sister Edana) see their next birthday. It's hard sometimes. But, when you love a breed, whether it's AKC registered or a 100% purebred good boy[girl] you do it all. And I document him as much as I can.
So here's to another year of you, Gussy boy. The sweetest and most sensitive baby there is. We love you so much❤️
So you see, I am just as much the crazy dog mom as all of you. It's why I do what I do!
