GUN REVIEW OF THE DAY

Hey guys,

Long time no see. Ashton here. The company is finally letting out of my cage to let me address y’all on a fi****ms review. Today I bring you the glorious Smith and Wesson Model 659.

Background information/tech specs:

The Smith & Wesson 659 is a traditional double-action high-capacity 9x19mm caliber pistol. Stainless steel version of the blued, alloyed framed Smith & Wesson 459 and blue all-steel Smith & Wesson 559. Fourteen shot magazine, 4 inch barrel. Manufactured with both adjustable rear sights and fixed-sight. Early production models have a rounded trigger guard. Later models have the squared trigger guard. Replaced by Smith & Wesson’s ‘3rd Generation’ stainless semiautos of the 5900 Series.

Production Years: (1981 - 1988)
Type: Pistol
Caliber(s): 9x19mm Parabellum
Weight: 1.7 lbs (0.8 kg)
Length: 7.4 in (18.9 cm)
Barrel length(s): 4 in (10.2 cm)
Capacity: 14-round box magazine
Fire Modes: Semi-Auto (DA/SA)

Initial Thoughts:

The Model 659, upon first picking it up, feels a little on the heavier side, weighing in at 1.7 pounds empty, whereas the G***k 19 Gen 3, which is a comparable firearm of the same caliber and magazine capacity, weighs in at 1.3 pounds empty. Where the weight makes the true difference is initial and follow up shots are smoother and more manageable due to its all steel construction, consistent smooth double action and crisp single action trigger pull. When shooting, the weapon, after the initial first shot, feels like it wants to immediately reacquire the target. The felt recoil is negligible and has the capability to handle any assortment of ammo reliably. Another wonderful plus, is that the firearm has a cult following where technical data is readily available, parts are plentiful, and you’ll always find someone knowledgeable on any Smith and Wesson forum.
