The women in our programs know this well: second chances don’t begin on release day.

They begin long before that—in the relationships people fight to hold onto while incarcerated.

Reentry isn’t just about finding a job. It’s about having somewhere—and someone—to come home to. That’s the part we don’t talk about enough.

In Portsmouth, Virginia, one program is doing something about it: hosting a carnival that brings incarcerated parents and their families together, giving children a chance to see their parent and families a meaningful opportunity to stay connected long before release day arrives.

These are the kinds of investments that help make successful reentry possible.
