Our historic preservation niche takes us to some pretty unusual places. Just before New Year 2026 we were called out to the Kaiser Permanente cement plant out near San Jose, to photograph a bunch of industrial buildings from the 1930s and 40s that were slated for demolition. A huge, abandoned industrial facility like this offers endless opportunities for creative photography in addition to just getting the job done. This photo is actually a more modern cement kiln, but pretty cool looking anyway.

The Mystery Castle of Phoenix The Mystery Castle was constructed by Boyce Luther Gulley between the early 1930s and 1945 on a desert hillside site overlooking the Salt River Valley, home of Phoenix, Arizona. Beyond this simple statement of fact, many of the details of how the Castle came to be are shrouded in lore and myth.
