Honoring our Roots. Designing our Shared Future.
Phoenix is growing, and with that growth comes the responsibility to ensure no one is left behind. To build a city that truly flourishes, we must understand the mechanics of how our neighborhoods change.
We’re gathering at the Audubon Center to explore the root causes of displacement and how it touches our lives—from the financial shifts affecting property ownership to the cultural shifts that impact the feeling of home for both long-term homeowners and renters.
We’ll also be looking closely at the landscape of our city. Often, modern architecture—with its high-rise condos and apartments—can feel disconnected from the ground it stands on, creating a sense of being “out of place” culturally. We believe our environment should be a mirror, not a wall. We need architectural design that invites the people’s culture, history, and spirit back into the skyline.
“This conversation isn’t about giving in to fear. It’s about transforming struggle into community Strength.” This is an invitation to be at the table. Design Empowerment PHX was built to provide the tools we need to be active participants in our environment.
We’ll be discussing the innovative solutions being created by community groups to ensure that as Phoenix evolves, its heart stays intact. We’re here to put knowledge back into our hands so we can shape a future where progress and preservation walk hand-in-hand.
Come with an open heart and a vision for what’s possible. Let’s culturally design together to ensure we aren’t just shaped by the future, but are the ones intentionally designing a space that feels like home.

2010 vs. 2026. The laws changed names, but the intent remains the same: to break what cannot be broken.
Local Xicano Photographer Sam Gomez captured this moment in Phoenix when the air was thick with SB1070. Today, we face a deadlier front, but our voices have only grown louder. Artists carry the heavy responsibility of reflecting the truth while brewing the medicine for a society being intentionally poisoned.
