"If a dreamer asks you to take care of their child or children in case of deportation, make sure you have guardianship papers drawn up now rather than later.

You can download them on most self service sites. You won't have to actually utilize them or file them unless and until the parents are deported. It's better to have them now and not need them, than to need them and not have them.

You will need proper legal guardianship in order to put the kids on your insurance, to make health decisions for them, to make academic decisions for them etc. etc. If you're going to be acting in loco parentis, then you need to have the legal authority."
