The City of Pinole will be presenting the Preliminary Budget for Fiscal Year 2026/27 during tomorrow's council meeting on Tuesday, June 2, 2026. Over the past few months, extensive work has been done to close the budget gap, including expense reductions across all departments including PCTV. Despite those efforts, a deficit remains.

One of the key measures being presented to council for consideration are to adjust the Pinole Community Television (PCTV) budget to match its revenue sources, which would mean reducing or removing the $480,000 General Fund subsidy that we currently receive, which accounts for 69% of our revenues. View the budget summary in the staff report. This amount far exceeds the funding for all of the skilled loyal staff. Some have served Pinole with pride for decades. This would amount to the end of PCTV.

If this funding is eliminated, PCTV as you know it cannot operate. After 42 years, the station could be forced to shut down – taking with it a dedicated, highly skilled staff whose decades of experience have made PCTV a trusted community resource.

In PCTV's 2024 community survey, 92% of respondents felt that it was important to vitally important to preserve the funds needed to maintain core services we provide:

Coverage of local government and education meetings
Coverage of local community cultural events
Coverage of local sporting events broadcast (i.e. high school football games, Little League)
Preserving the history of our community through video
Job training for our youth interns and volunteers
These services are not available through commercial media outlets. They exist because PCTV’s staff are committed to serving our community and giving local residents a voice.

If you believe these services are worth preserving, we ask you to attend the Tuesday, June 2nd City Council Meeting at 5:30pm, or call in to share your voice. If you join in person, Wear Blue to show your support for PCTV. Your voice can make a difference.

Meeting Location: Pinole City Hall Council Chambers, 2131 Pear Street, Pinole.

In service,
