Savage Mind

really bodied this track so it’s such a pleasure to have him with me with this release. Ted and I go as far back as 6th grade at Central Jr. High. We played band both concert and Jazz and I always appreciated his demeanor. In High School, we’d have freestyle Wednesdays which really got me practicing my flows, raps and delivery. This happened at the Band room all the time.

What I always appreciated was his tenacity, especially in high school when I’d see him play JV FootBall and change from his Football gear to his Band uniform and get his Tenor Sax ready to march. There was a handful of homies who did this and as a classmate, I admired that about him fr.

I ended up calling this Hoop Laces because it reminded me of when I was commuting from Pittsburg to Berkeley to go to college in 2014-2015. I was battling pretty deep depression at that time, questioning a lot of things and my reality and had developed significant social anxiety. A lot of myself was being challenged and it was the early stages of my Dad’s diagnosis.

So in some ways even tho I’ve written this years later those moments still are a totem pole in the turning points of my life that i won’t forget. I’m just glad that during that time I had a homie like Ted who I was able to bond with even after graduating high school because of our shared love of rap, Hiphop, producing and music in general.
