Fireworks kill and seriously injure countless animals every year. It’s devastating for us who work in the Veterinary or Animal Services fields for weeks because every July 4th and the many days after emergency veterinary hospitals are flooded with animals hit by cars, suffering traumatic injuries, burns, broken bones, shock, and life-threatening emergencies after panicking and trying to escape fireworks.

July 5th is the single highest intake day for stray dogs nationwide and massive euthanasia happens in shelters due to overcrowding following. Shelters and rescues are overwhelmed with lost, injured, and terrified pets. Wildlife suffers too—birds abandon nests, deer run into traffic, and countless wild animals are injured or die fleeing the explosions.

💔 This is preventable. Please talk to your friends and family and neighbors and if you see them doing something that can hurt animals, say something. It takes others to teach others about the realities. It’s so heartbreaking 💔
