AM I THE JAGOFF… for paying for a stack of books with a single quarter at a “pay what you want” sale⁉️

A local comic book shop in my town is having a "pay what you want" sale to clear out old books. The owner told me there was no minimum and to just help get rid of the inventory.

The first time I went, I grabbed a stack of books and paid $2.50. The next week, I got another stack but only paid a quarter. The owner laughed and joked, "You got all that and thought it was worth a quarter?" I laughed too and left.

This week I went back with another stack, planning to pay $2. While I was browsing, another customer said, "I'll pay an extra dollar to make up for the guy who only paid a quarter. That's messed up." My face immediately turned red because they were talking about me.

After they left, I apologized to the owner and paid $6 instead. He admitted he hadn't realized I was the same person, laughed it off, and said he understood why I'd only paid a quarter since there was no minimum. He was very kind and insisted it wasn't a big deal.

When I told my friends, though, they said I took advantage of the shop's generosity and was rude for only paying a quarter, even if the owner technically allowed it. I figured I was just following the rules of the sale, but now I'm wondering… am I the jagoff?
