On August 4, Literacy Pittsburgh is participating in Critical Needs Alert, a 24- hour online giving event hosted by The Pittsburgh Foundation and The Community Foundation of Westmoreland County. This community-wide campaign supports nonprofits providing essential services across our region.
We are so excited to be part of this event, which includes an incentive pool that will make your gift go further! Your support creates opportunities for adults and families and builds brighter futures. Spread the word!

Help us welcome Rachel as an Enrollment Coordinator! Rachel is originally from Canada and has lived in western PA since 2006, which is also the year she became a U.S. citizen. She has a master's in library science from Simmons University in Boston and has worked mostly in public libraries, with a 3-year stint in study abroad/international student advising. Her side interests include walkable cities and making book recommendations.

Our staff tabled at the Pittsburgh Pride celebration. This was a great opportunity to meet potential volunteers and students! So many people were excited about creating better lives through learning. For example,
A former student shared, "I love Literacy Pittsburgh! You helped me get my GED at 30, and now I'm in nursing school. I couldn't have done it without you!"
A mother-daughter duo of former elementary school teachers decided to sign up for tutor training together.
A CCAC staff person said that when students want ESL classes, she tells them, "Literacy Pittsburgh programs are free. They should start with you. They'll learn a lot."
