Despite being blinded as an infant, F***y Crosby went on to write more than 8,000 hymns of praise to the Lord —perhaps the most prolific hymn writer in history.
In 1873, her friend Phoebe Knapp played a new melody and asked, “What does this tune say?” F***y instantly replied, “Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!”—and the beloved hymn was born.
