Still learning how to have fun with lighting - peek the letter 's' in the ceiling! I'm also working through some kinks with a secret door. Lots of painting this week alongside the lighting install. Countertops next week and then hopefully we are move-in ready in early June!

Carpet install, a huge island, and more cabinetry = another exciting week!

There is something new to see each time we step on site, and it's exciting! From installed glass panels => navy cabinetry with brass pulls => sconce lighting, Sutton Engineering is taking shape. Up next? Custom ceiling work/lighting, wallpaper (yes!), tiling, and more!

Good things take time. So much of the process up to now has been all the prep work before 'the pretty', until today. Glimpses of little visions coming to life - a 'bonus' room the staff doesn't even know about yet with a secret door, an open concept kitchen/break-room, and full glass panels in all outer offices to let all the beautiful natural light in.

This 'resimercial design' movement has staying power.

Resimercial design brings residential elements into commercial spaces to create a homely, warmer environment.

More and more, we’re seeing resimercial design infiltrate workspaces, hotels and commercial spaces all over, including churches. So, what exactly does it mean, and why is it having a moment?

From a business perspective, it's making work feel more comfortable and relaxing which in turn boosts retention + culture + productivity, attracting a higher calibre of candidates.

Whether a workspace or a church space, the goal is to evoke a sense of community, warmth, collaboration and pride.

While 'remote' has its place post pandemic, this evolved design space concept incorporates resimercial design elements to move with the times, not outside of it.

Essentially, businesses are asking themselves: what do spaces need to feel like to bring people in, get them to linger, and have them coming back again and again.

And I'm here for it, as you can see by my latest design boards for a client!

Construction progress is so exciting to watch. The multipurpose + worship space is almost done, and the coffee hang space is taking shape day by day. I am loving the architectural detail given to not just the walls but the ceiling, especially given that this was a quirky shaped room!

Got a narrow hallway? Add windows + architectural openings + great lighting! Check out the giant circle in this space.

I can't wait to get the furniture in these spaces, giving this church expanded ministry opportunities immediately!

Some see a mess of construction work. I see a design opportunity to maximize the mixed use of a great space. Excited to already see progress and help make this youth renovation space come to life!
