Singleton Basketball
Skills development James Singleton developed a passion for basketball a little later in life than most professional players.
As 10/11 year olds, numbers don’t matter. Teaching, coaching and learning does.
Points don’t matter.
What matters is how they play and how they carry themselves.
Do they hustle?
Do they defend?
Did they listen?
Can they lead and be lead when it’s hard?
We’re building young men, not chasing noise.
Leaders don’t need attention. They handle business.
If it can’t be seen on the floor —
effort, discipline, toughness —
then it doesn’t count.
Ignore the noise.
Do the work.
Lead.
People in general forget quick who’s been standing up for them —
sacrificing family time for them, and truly believing in them and their growth.
Disrespect… lack of buy-in… half attention — that only flies for so long.
Once you reach that point with me, there’s no “can we talk,” no “misunderstanding or miscommunication.”
I make my expectations clear. I give my all — expecting nothing back except respect and full effort.
That’s priceless.
I’ve learned that when you get the chance to learn from rare, you cherish it.
Because when it’s gone… it’s gone.
And the silence that follows will remind you
of the value of what you once had — and can’t get back.
