Today I’m scared.

Scared for the women who need abortions for reasons that aren’t ours to judge.

Scared as a woman who has utilized IVF and Mifepristone for pregnancy termination due to miscarriage. Both of which are under attack.

Scared for my students who rely on free lunches to have any food in their bellies for the day.

Scared for my students with disabilities who will not be able to access the care that they need to thrive and in some cases survive.

Scared as a public school teacher who now faces losing much needed funding.

Scared as an educator who knows that the Department of Education is necessary to provide students and teachers with what they need.

Scared as a teacher who utilizes diverse and inclusive books on a daily basis to make sure every student feels seen.

Scared that parents who do not have teaching degrees will have more control over what and how students learn than teachers with masters degrees.

Scared for my LGBTQ students and minorities who will now feel scared for their lives and freedoms because of the racist and hateful rhetoric our nation’s leaders spew.

Scared that the separation of church and state continues to dwindle and only those who fit the mold will receive what they need.

Scared for our democracy and fearful of a dictatorship that is likely to come.

Scared to know that many of my friends, family, colleagues chose to vote for a convicted felon who radiates hate, has a distinct lack of respect for democracy, and will continue to put the lives of billionaires above all else.

Scared to raise a child in a world where taking rights away from those who are different from you is more important than the freedoms and safety of women, children, and minorities.

Today we’re scared. But tomorrow we fight.
