How's January treating everyone so far? Does it feel like you're on day 47, or has it been alright for you?ππ
January is usually one of the hardest months of the year for me. If you know me, you know I hate the snow/cold, plain and simple. So that, coupled with the days getting dark at 5 pm, can really get to me.
Last fall I decided I didn't want it to be like that anymore. I chose to take some steps to prepare myself to not feel so sad and low for what feels like years during the winter months. Here's what I did, and have been doing:
1-I started taking whole food supplements, from naturally derived sources, so that my body knew how to process them. This has helped to regulate some imbalances in my body, so that it isn't working against itself. I'll tag the shop I go to in my stories.
2-I started going to therapy again. I went for a while in 2020 (like practically everyone else) and stopped because I felt better. This time, I started because I wanted to strengthen my mental health before the literal and figurative storms of winter came my way. I'll go into details on this in my stories sometime. There's a lot to talk about there, and I'll share when I feel ready. β€
3-I've tried to find things that bring my mind joy. Not things that other people have told me will make me happy in the winter (Learn to ski! Play in the snow!), but things that make MY brain happy. Listen to yourself, and do the thing(s) that light your fire. π₯
4-Doing yoga every day has really helped me as well. I know everybody says it, bit find some way, even a small one, to move your body. I don't like leaving my house at night in the cold to go to the gym. But a cozy, soft moving practice where I can calm my mind? That's my vibe. Find what speaks to you.
5-Eating well. I would bring food into this, wouldn't I?π My intention for this new year (and new decade of my life-30!) Is to nourish my own body like I do for others. I'm not here to tell you to eat 12 cups of veggies a day. Figure out what works best for you. Maybe start with just one vegetable a day. Find a more natural source of caffeine. (You'll never hear me telling you to not eat treats. Never.)
Whoa, that got wordy quickπ
all this to say- find a baby step to help you feel happy and more yourself. Then sit there for a while to adjust, find your bearings, and take another baby step. Reach out if you need help getting started. I truly mean it when I say I'm here for you. Dm me. If you're local, let's go get a cupcake sometime. We can get through this time together β€
