Rooted Adventure School
Rooted Adventure School is a one day a week, outdoor, immersive school just north of Springfield, MO.
Our week 6 study was focused on ruminants in honor of our new baby calf that was born on the farm!
We got to spend time together in poetry about “The Cow” by Robert Louis Stevenson. And we explored the farm together as a group, observed, fed, and gave lots of attention to our newest calf which we named after our reoccurring artist this semester, Claude Monet.
Together we got to watch and participate in milking the family cow. And some students tasted fresh, warm, raw milk, straight from the cow!
To dive further into our knowledge of ruminants we asked retired veterinarian Richard Herman to share with the group. He was a WEALTH of knowledge and the oldest form of learning to pass knowledge down from the elders was on full display as we discussed ruminants and got to look closely at several skulls he had brought to share.
We ended the day with a beautiful autumn hike through the woods and rustling leaves while we read a book about deer and discussed responsible hunting practices and why they are needed.
It’s been a great semester so far! We can’t wait to share more of it with you!
