Professor of theatre and director Kris Peterson of Brigham Young University visited the course Spanish 6676: Latin American Short Theatre on Wednesday, May 27, to talk with the Spanish MA students about her experience in directing and acting in an entirely virtual production of Cuban-American María Irene Fornés’ play Manual for a Desperate Crossing.

March Through the Arch reminder for those students who are coming to our ISU campus!

Each fall, new students pass through Swanson Arch, starting their ISU journey. Tomrorrow, graduates march back through, leaving as Bengal alumni. Cap and gown is encouraged but not required! Families and friends are welcome!

On Friday, April 24th, Dr. Marin Laufenberg Zoomed into the Spanish Club at Carmel Catholic High School in Mundelein, IL to share with the gathered high schoolers about her journey in language learning, why she recommends they continue their studies in language, and ideas for future careers involving language and culture. The 20 or so gathered students asked questions about how Laufenberg became interested in teaching, why she chose to study abroad in Spain and Argentina, and what her advice would be for students wanting to get the most out of experiences abroad. To the last question she responded, "Make sure to try new things when you are abroad, be open to new experiences, don't simply speak English with your friends from home who you might be with on your trip, but rather, try to stay in the target language. And ask many many questions."
